Artificial intelligence (AI) is a phrase used by software companies to push their products. Without properly understanding the technology, their sales pitches seem too good to be true.

Because they are.

While some of these products have a place in prospect research, it should be acknowledged that most pull indiscriminately from public records and apply general, proprietary algorithms to interpret the information that is retrieved.

The models they formulate are inconsistent.

In my experience, gift officers have oftentimes found themselves booking meetings with prospects who, only once at the meeting place, are obviously NOT major or principle gift qualified. This is not ideal, nor is it efficient.

There are no one-click solutions to QUALITY prospect research.
